Position Summary...

The Private Brand Product Development Manager is fundamental in developing, building, and maintaining a strong Private Brands product portfolio that aligns with brand standards. The PDM is responsible for defining, building and maintaining excellence for all Walmart Private Brand products in their respective categories to ensure that our products consistently offer value to Walmart’s customers.

What you'll do...

1. Product Development:

Develop new products and reformulate, resource, globally leverage (WM International), and update existing private brand products to align with Private Brand standards, competitive market benchmarks, and regulatory compliance requirements. Work closely with the PB Sourcing Manager, Quality Assurance Manager, Compliance, and Project & Packaging Coordinators to ensure products and projects are delivered on time and on strategy.

2. Product Lifecycle Management:

Establish critical product attributes for all PB Sourcing initiatives to share with vendor partners at the start of the project.

Evaluate and compare vendor submissions against Private Brand standards and critical product attributes to provide sound sourcing recommendations to the PB team, including insights on cost options/components

Establish finished product specifications with the vendor, QA, and Compliance for all PB products within the established timeline.

Evaluate and approve 1st Production product, along with the QA, to ensure finished product specifications are achieved

Engage and work with vendor partners throughout the product development process to ensure technical product objectives and timelines are clearly defined, shared, and achieved.

Work with QA and Compliance on post launch monitoring to ensure private brand products meet our Private Brand Standards

3. Benchmarking/Ongoing PLM Monitoring:

Prepare and lead ongoing cross functional benchmarking reviews to evaluate and compare current Walmart Private Brand items with competitive National Brand Items, Competitor’s Private Brands, and WM International Private Brand offerings. Initiate sourcing actions with the PB Sourcing Manager, where opportunities are identified to improve quality, standards and/or margins

4.Product Planning:

Prepare and participate in quarterly Product Planning sessions with Category Management, PB Sourcing Manager, and Marketing to develop strategic product objectives and build a solid Product Development Plan

5.Promotional Activities:

Internal - Plan, organize, support, execute activities to promote Private Brands and internal events such as WM Year Beginning Meeting, Golden Quarter, Home Office Associate Consumer Reviews, SPARK, etc.

External – Support the Private Brand Marketing/Brand team with product details and samples for external marketing material, included by not limited to: website, flyer, WM Live Better magazine, print, radio, and television advertising.

6. Customer Inquiries and Complaints:

Supporting the customer experience team by providing timely information in response to Private Brand inquiries and issues related to our product’s performance and quality. The PDM may be required to conduct more extensive investigation or reviews, in conjunction with the QA Team, to identify and correct root causes of issues.

7.Innovation/Trends:

Participate in regular vendor reviews, industry trade shows, seminars, field trips, on-line and media research to keep abreast/ahead of industry trends.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 6-8 years relevant experience
  • Technical (Product Development, Quality Assurance) Industry experience in the Health & Wellness and/ or Health & Beauty categories would be an asset
  • Retail Experience
