Senior Manager, Strategic Initiatives

Position Summary...

Reporting to the Senior Director, Strategy, this role is primarily responsible for driving internal strategy and play the role of executive advisory support for critical large-scale initiatives, including any of the top strategic initiatives, M&A and partnership opportunities, and new ventures for Walmart Canada. This includes working with Walmart Canada’s business leaders in diagnosing core issues, identifying opportunities, scoping and assessing options to recommended solutions, and designing implementation roadmaps. It may also include overseeing execution of parts of the critical initiative to ensure successful delivery. This role is an agent of the Office of the President, and as such, must uphold a level of strong internal influence and no functional-related bias to ensure optimal delivery for Walmart Canada overall. This role may also lean into delivering enterprise-wide strategic planning mandates, inclusive of the development of the long range and annual plans. This is a high visibility and complex role with significant independent responsibilities and excellent prospects for career growth.

What you'll do...

Responsibilities

  • Structure complex, ambiguous problems into clear and simple hypotheses, create digestible project plans, and use a data-driven approach to deliver on these.
  • Develop and own comprehensive business cases and financial models utilizing all relevant data sources and various modelling methods to support strategic projects.
  • Strategically lead and own project streams, develop a point-of-view, and be accountable for analysis, insights, and recommendations.
  • Manage stakeholder communications and relationships, and become a trusted advisor to influence key outcomes.
  • Deliver project insights and present recommendations as project lead to senior business owners / executive audiences.
  • Utilize market research and analytics-based insights to inform opportunities and risks for the organization, through internal and external sources, including economic outlook, competitor activity, marketplace environment and trends impacting Walmart Canada and its stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in business or related field- Master’s or MBA preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in management consulting, or strategy within a large retail or consumer organization
  • 1-2 years of people leadership experience
  • Strong analytical skills and structured strategic thinking
  • Excellent communication skills - written and spoken
  • Proficient in data analysis and presentation building
  • Results-driven, proactive and scrappy, independent thinker, comfortable with ambiguity, innovative and resourceful
  • Strong team player and collaborator
  • Experience in retail a plus
